Petition to keep Kardinia open in winter

16 May 2023 by Anna McDonald

As you know, swimming is key to lifesaving activities and a major aspect of all our programs.
Some of you may be aware there is a proposed to plan to shut down the Kardinia Pool over winter as part of Geelong council’s plan to save money.
Being a 50m pool, Kardinia is where the club runs some early morning training sessions and where a lot of our members swim.
It is the only 50-metre pool available in the region open for winter. Leisurelink in Waurn Ponds, although built as a 50-metre pool, is permanently set up as 2 × 25-metre pools. The Waterworld facility in Norlane will also be closing in June for renovations, further diminishing the options for swimmers in the Geelong region. The new Drysdale pool is being planned as a ‘summer only’ facility.

If you do not agree with the closure there are a couple of things that you can do:
• You can make a submission to CoGG in relation to the closure of the pool. Follow this link, letting them know why you want Kardinia Park Pool open year-round. https://yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/2023-24-BRRP/2023-2024-council-budget-submissions-form
• There is also a change.org petition being arranged by some of the members of one of the local swimming clubs https://www.change.org/p/save-kardinia-park-pool
